Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Mahāniddesa · Vol. 29 · Section 906

[906] **High and low**, in the phrase "on high and low beds": *high and low* means inferior and superior, fine and bad. **On beds**: "bed" (sayana) refers to a lodging (senāsana) — a dwelling (vihāra), a half-gabled house (aḍḍhayoga), a mansion (pāsāda), a flat-roofed house (hammiya), or a cave (guhā) — thus, "on high and low beds."
