[938] **"Touched by the contact of disease (ātaṅkaphassa) and by hunger (khudā)":** the contact of disease is called the contact of illness. He would be touched, beset, afflicted, and possessed by the contact of illness; he would be touched, beset, afflicted, and possessed by disease of the eye; by disease of the ear, disease of the nose, disease of the tongue, disease of the body … by contact (phassa) with gadflies, mosquitoes, wind, sun, and creeping creatures he would be touched, beset, afflicted, and possessed. "Hunger" is a term for the state of being famished (chātaka). He would be touched, beset, afflicted, and possessed by that famished state — hence, "touched by the contact of disease and by hunger."
