[943] **He should not commit theft, he should not speak falsely** — as to *he should not commit theft*: here a bhikkhu, having abandoned [the taking of] what is not given, should be one who abstains from taking what is not given (adinnādāna), one who takes only what is given, who expects only what is given; he should dwell with a self that is unthieving and become pure. Thus, "he should not commit theft."
As to *he should not speak falsely*: here a bhikkhu, having abandoned false speech (musāvāda), should be one who abstains from false speech — a speaker of truth, an adherent of truth, steadfast, trustworthy, no deceiver of the world. Thus, "he should not commit theft, he should not speak falsely."
