[958] *"Painfully indeed did I lie here; where shall I lie today?"* means: This night I lay in pain (dukkhaṃ)—on a plank, or on a woven mat, or on a piece of hide, or on a spread of grass, or on a spread of leaves, or on a spread of foliage. On the coming night, where shall I lie in comfort—on a bed, or on a bench, or on a mattress, or on a pillow, or in a dwelling (vihāra), or in a house with a half-gabled roof (aḍḍhayoga), or in a mansion (pāsāda), or in a flat-roofed building (hammiya), or in a cave? Therefore it is said: *"Painfully indeed did I lie here; where shall I lie today?"*
