[30] Venerable ladies, the eight rules entailing defeat (pārājikā dhammā) have been recited. A bhikkhunī who has committed any one or another of them does not obtain communion (saṃvāsa) with the bhikkhunīs; as before, so afterwards, she is defeated (pārājikā), not in communion. Concerning these I ask the venerable ladies: are you pure in this? A second time I ask: are you pure in this? A third time I ask: are you pure in this? The venerable ladies are pure in this; therefore they are silent. Thus do I hold it.
The Pārājika Division is concluded.
The Division of Seventeen
Now, venerable ladies, these seventeen rules entailing initial and subsequent meetings of the Saṅgha (saṅghādisesā dhammā) come up for recitation (uddesa).
