[152] **Dukkhassa ve maṃ pabhavaṃ apucchasi** — "**Of suffering (dukkha)**": of the suffering of birth (jāti), of the suffering of aging (jarā), of the suffering of illness (byādhi), of the suffering of death (maraṇa), of the suffering of sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair (soka-parideva-dukkha-domanassa-upāyāsa) — hence "of suffering."
"**You have asked me the source of suffering**": you ask me the root of suffering, you ask the cause, you ask the source (nidāna), you ask the origination (sambhava), you ask the genesis (pabhava), you ask the arising (samuṭṭhāna), you ask the nutriment (āhāra), you ask the object (ārammaṇa), you ask the condition (paccaya), you ask the origin (samudaya); you ask, you request, you invite, you entreat — hence "you have asked me the source of suffering."
"**Mettagū**": the Blessed One addresses that brahmin by name. "**The Blessed One (Bhagavā)**": this is a term of reverence … a designation based on realization (sacchikā paññatti), namely "Bhagavā" — hence "Mettagū," (said) the Blessed One.
