[181] **Dwelling thus, mindful, heedful.** *Dwelling thus* (evaṃvihārī): abandoning, dispelling, making an end of, and bringing to non-existence delight (nandi), attachment (nivesana), consciousness accompanied by volitional formation (abhisaṅkhāra), kamma-existence (kammabhava), and renewed existence bound up with rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi) — thus he is one dwelling thus. *Mindful* (sato): he is mindful for four reasons: developing the establishment of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna) of contemplating the body in the body … he is called mindful. *Heedful* (appamatto): acting with care, acting with perseverance, acting without stopping, of unslackened conduct, not casting away desire, not casting away the burden, heedful with regard to wholesome dhammas, [thinking:] "When shall I fulfill the unfulfilled aggregate of virtue, or assist with wisdom the fulfilled aggregate of virtue?" — whatever desire, effort, endeavor, exertion, non-retreat, mindfulness, and clear comprehension there is therein, whatever ardor, striving, resolution, application, and heedfulness with regard to wholesome dhammas; [thinking:] "When shall I fulfill the unfulfilled aggregate of concentration, aggregate of liberation, aggregate of the knowledge and vision of liberation, or assist with wisdom the fulfilled aggregate of the knowledge and vision of liberation?" — whatever desire, effort, endeavor, exertion, non-retreat, mindfulness, and clear comprehension there is therein, whatever ardor, striving, resolution, application, and heedfulness with regard to wholesome dhammas; [thinking:] "When shall I fully understand the suffering (dukkha) not yet fully understood, or abandon the defilements (kilesa) not yet abandoned, or develop the path not yet developed, or realize the cessation not yet realized?" — whatever desire, effort, endeavor, exertion, non-retreat, mindfulness, and clear comprehension there is therein, whatever ardor, striving, resolution, application, and heedfulness with regard to wholesome dhammas — thus: dwelling thus, mindful, heedful.
