[187] **Truly indeed, Blessed One, you have abandoned suffering (dukkha)** (*addhā hi bhagavā pahāsi dukkhaṃ*): **Truly (addhā)** — this is an expression of certainty, an expression free of doubt, an expression free of perplexity, an expression that is not twofold, an expression without equivocation, an expression of leading out,³ an unerring expression, an expression of certitude — such is "truly." **The Blessed One (Bhagavā)** — this is a term of reverence … a designation (paññatti) founded on realization, namely "Bhagavā."
**You have abandoned suffering**: you have abandoned, given up, dispelled, made an end of, and brought to non-existence the suffering of birth (jāti), the suffering of aging (jarā), the suffering of illness, the suffering of death (maraṇa), and the suffering of sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief, and despair — thus, "truly indeed, Blessed One, you have abandoned suffering."
