[186] **"Well proclaimed, O Gotama, is that which is without acquisitions (upadhi)"** — *Sukittitaṃ* (well proclaimed): it is well proclaimed, well told, well taught, well made known, well established, well disclosed, well analyzed, well made plain, well explained; therefore it is "well proclaimed."
*Gotama nūpadhīkaṃ* ("O Gotama, ... without acquisitions"): the defilements (kilesa), the aggregates (khandha), and volitional formations (abhisaṅkhāra) are called acquisitions (upadhi). The abandoning of acquisitions, the stilling of acquisitions, the relinquishing of acquisitions, the tranquilizing of acquisitions — the Deathless (amata), Nibbāna; therefore, "well proclaimed, O Gotama, is that which is without acquisitions."
