[229] **"I shall proclaim peace to you"** (kittayissāmi te santiṃ): the calming (santi) of lust (rāga), the calming of hatred, the calming of delusion; the calming, the quieting, the complete stilling, the extinguishment, the tranquilization of anger (kodha), of grudge (upanāha), of denigration (makkha), of domineering (paḷāsa), of envy (issā), of avarice (macchariya), of deceit (māyā), of hypocrisy (sāṭheyya), of obstinacy (thambha), of contentiousness (sārambha), of conceit (māna), of arrogance (atimāna), of intoxication (mada), of heedlessness (pamāda), of all defilements (kilesa), of all misconduct (duccarita), of all distress (daratha), of all fevers (pariḷāha), of all torments (santāpa), of all unwholesome volitional formations (akusalābhisaṅkhāra) — this I shall proclaim [1], declare, teach, make known, establish, disclose, analyze, elucidate, and explain. Hence: "I shall proclaim peace to you."
**"Dhotaka," said the Blessed One** (Dhotakāti Bhagavā): the Blessed One addresses that brahmin by name, "Dhotaka." "Blessed One" (Bhagavā): this is a term of reverence … this designation, namely "Blessed One," is a designation verified by realization (sacchikā paññatti). Hence: "Dhotaka," said the Blessed One.
