[258] **"Whoever is devoid of lust (vītarāga) for all sensual pleasures (kāma)"** — "For all" (sabbesu): entirely all, in every way all, without remainder, without residue; this word "for all" is an expression of total inclusion.
"Sensual pleasures" (kāmesu): by way of summary there are two kinds of sensual pleasures: objective sensuality (vatthukāma) and subjective sensuality (kilesakāma) … these are called objective sensuality … these are called subjective sensuality.
"Whoever is devoid of lust for all sensual pleasures": whoever, with regard to all sensual pleasures, is devoid of lust, has given up lust, has vomited up lust, has released lust, has abandoned lust, has relinquished lust, has suppressed lust — hence, "whoever is devoid of lust for all sensual pleasures."
**"Upasīva," said the Blessed One** — the Blessed One addresses that brahmin (brāhmaṇa) by name, "Upasīva." "Blessed One" (Bhagavā): this is a term of reverence … this designation, namely "Bhagavā," is a designation according with what is realized (sacchikā paññatti) — hence, "Upasīva," said the Blessed One.
