[311] **"Then who now, dear sir (mārisa), in the world of gods and humans (devamanussaloka) has crossed over birth and aging?"** — Then who is this that, in the world with its gods, with its Māra, with its Brahmā, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, with its gods and humans, has crossed over birth, aging, and death (jāti, jarā, maraṇa) — has crossed over it, crossed beyond it, crossed past it, surmounted it, gone beyond it?
**"Dear sir (mārisa)"**: this is a term of affection, a term of respect; this word "mārisa" is a designation imbued with reverence and deference. Hence: "Then who now, dear sir, in the world of gods and humans has crossed over birth and aging?"
