[313] (Said the Blessed One:) "Nanda, I do not say that all ascetics and brahmins are shrouded by birth, aging (jāti, jarā); those here who have abandoned all that is seen, heard, or sensed, and also all rules and observances (sīlabbata), who have abandoned even the manifold things, all of them, who, having fully understood craving (taṇhā), are without taints (āsava) — those men indeed, I say, have crossed the flood (ogha)."
