[340] **The state of Nibbāna (nibbānapada), the imperishable (accuta)**: the state of Nibbāna is the state of shelter (tāṇapada), the state of refuge (leṇapada), the state that is the final resort (parāyanapada), the state of fearlessness (abhayapada). **Imperishable**: permanent, stable, everlasting, of a nature not to change — thus "the state of Nibbāna, the imperishable." Therefore the Blessed One said:
"Here, Hemaka, the dispelling of desire and lust (chandarāga)
for pleasing forms (piyarūpa) — seen, heard, sensed (and cognized) —
is the state of Nibbāna, the imperishable."
