[398] **The abandonment here of birth and aging (jātijjarāya idha vippahānaṃ):** the abandonment (pahāna), the stilling (vūpasama), the relinquishment (paṭinissagga), the tranquilizing (paṭippassaddhi) of birth, aging, and death right here — the Deathless (amata), Nibbāna. Thus, "the abandonment here of birth and aging." Therefore that brahmin said:
For the Blessed One moves about having overcome sensual pleasures,
as the fiery sun with its fiery radiance [overspreads] the earth.
To me of limited wisdom, O one of vast wisdom,
declare the Dhamma, that I may understand
the abandonment here of birth and aging.
