[400] **Kāmesu vinaya gedhaṃ** — "Remove greed for sensual pleasures": as to **kāmesu** ("for sensual pleasures"), by way of summary (uddāna) there are two kinds of sensual pleasures: objective sensuality (vatthukāma) and subjective sensuality (kilesakāma) … These are called objective sensuality … These are called subjective sensuality.
As to **gedhaṃ** ("greed"): "greed (gedha)" is a term for craving (taṇhā) — that lust, passion … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root.
As to **kāmesu vinaya gedhaṃ** ("remove greed for sensual pleasures"): remove it, thoroughly remove it, abandon it, dispel it, make an end of it, bring it to non-existence — hence, "remove greed for sensual pleasures."
**Jatukaṇṇī**: the Blessed One addresses that brahmin by his clan name.
**Bhagavā**: this is a designation of reverence … this designation, "Bhagavā," is one arrived at through realization (sacchikā paññatti) — hence, "Jatukaṇṇī," (said) the Blessed One.
