[401] Renunciation (nekkhamma), in the passage "having seen renunciation as safety (nekkhammaṃ daṭṭhu khemato)": [renunciation means] the right practice, the conforming practice, the practice that is not contrary, the practice in accordance with the goal, the practice of dhamma in accordance with dhamma; the fulfillment of the virtues, the guarding of the doors of the sense faculties, moderation in eating, devotion to wakefulness (jāgariyānuyoga), mindfulness and clear comprehension, the four establishments of mindfulness (satipaṭṭhāna), the four right strivings (sammappadhāna), the four bases of spiritual power (iddhipāda), the five faculties (indriya), the five powers (bala), the seven factors of awakening (bojjhaṅga), the noble eightfold path, and Nibbāna and the practice leading to Nibbāna. Having seen, beheld, weighed, judged, made clear, and made evident [these] as safety, as shelter, as a cave of refuge, as refuge, as that which has become a refuge, as fearlessness, as the imperishable, as the deathless, as Nibbāna — therefore, "having seen renunciation as safety."
