[405] **"Let wither what was before"** (yaṃ pubbe taṃ visosehi): whatever defilements (kilesa) might arise with reference to formations (saṅkhārā) of the past — dry up those defilements, wither them, make them dry, make them utterly dry, render them seedless, abandon them, dispel them, make an end of them, bring them to non-existence. In this way too, "let wither what was before."
Or else: those past kamma-formations (kammābhisaṅkhārā) whose results have ripened — dry up those kamma-formations, wither them, make them dry, make them utterly dry, render them seedless, abandon them, dispel them, make an end of them, bring them to non-existence. In this way too, "let wither what was before."
