[419] **Various people gathered from the countries** — "Various people": khattiyas (khattiyā, warrior-nobles), brahmins (brāhmaṇā), merchants and farmers (vessā), labourers and servants (suddā), householders (gahaṭṭhā) and those gone forth (pabbajitā), devas and human beings.
"Gathered from the countries": the Aṅgas and the Magadhans, the Kāsis and the Kosalans, the Vajjians and the Mallas, and those from Ceti and from Sāgara, the Pañcālas and the Avantis, the Yonas and the Kambojas.
"Gathered": gathered, come together, convened, assembled — hence "various people gathered from the countries."
