[420] **"Longing, O hero, for your word" (tava vīra vākyaṃ abhikaṅkhamānā):** "Hero" (vīra) — the Blessed One is a hero. The Blessed One is possessed of energy (viriyavā), therefore he is a hero. He is mighty (pahu), therefore he is a hero. He is capable (visavī), therefore he is a hero. He is fully adequate (alamatto), therefore he is a hero … he is rid of horripilation (vigatalomahaṃso), therefore he is a hero.
Abstaining here from all evil things,
having passed beyond the suffering (dukkha) of hell, he is one who dwells in energy;
he, possessed of energy, possessed of striving (padhāna),
is called a hero, such a one (tādi), because he is thus.
Therefore [it is said]: "O hero … your."
**"Longing for your word" (tava … vākyaṃ abhikaṅkhamānā):** your word, your way of speech, your teaching, its sequence (anusandhi).
**"Longing" (abhikaṅkhamānā):** longing, longing intently, wishing, relishing, aspiring, yearning, hankering — therefore [it is said]: "Longing, O hero, for your word."
