[475] **"For one seeing that internally and externally there is nothing" (ajjhattañca bahiddhā ca natthi kiñcīti passato):** "There is nothing" is the attainment of the sphere of nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatanasamāpatti). For what reason is the attainment of the sphere of nothingness [called] "there is nothing"? [4] Having mindfully entered the attainment of the sphere of infinity of consciousness (viññāṇañcāyatanasamāpatti) and having emerged from it, one makes that very consciousness (viññāṇa) non-existent, dissolves it, causes it to vanish, and sees: "There is nothing." For that reason the attainment of the sphere of nothingness is [called] "there is nothing." Hence, "for one seeing that internally and externally there is nothing."
