[476] In the passage "Ñāṇaṃ sakkānupucchāmi" ("O Sakka, I ask about knowledge (ñāṇa)"): "Sakkā" [is the vocative of] "Sakka" — the Blessed One is named Sakka. The Blessed One went forth from the Sakyan clan; for this reason too he is Sakka. … The Blessed One has abandoned fear and dread and is free from horripilation; for this reason too he is Sakka.
"O Sakka, I ask about knowledge": I ask about that person's knowledge — of what sort it is, how it is constituted, of what kind it is, to what it may be compared, [and which] is to be desired [by that person]. Therefore it is said, "O Sakka, I ask about knowledge."
