[516] **"The abandoning of birth and aging right here"** means: right here is the abandonment (pahāna), the calming (vūpasama), the relinquishment (paṭinissagga), the subsiding (paṭippassaddhi) of birth, aging, and death — the deathless (amata), Nibbāna. Hence, "the abandoning of birth and aging right here." Therefore that brahmin said:
"I am old, feeble, and faded in complexion (thus said the venerable Piṅgiya);
my eyes are not clear, my hearing is not easy;
let me not perish confused along the way —
declare the Dhamma, which I might come to know,
the abandoning of birth and aging right here."
