[521] **"Give up form, for no renewed existence"** — *Form* (rūpa): the four great elements (mahābhūta) and the form derived (upādāyarūpa) from the four great elements.
"Give up form" means: give up form, abandon form, dispel form, make an end of form, bring form to non-existence — thus, "give up form."
"For no renewed existence" means: so that your form may cease right here, and existence by way of rebirth-linking (paṭisandhi) would not be produced again — whether in the sense element (dhātu), the form element, or the formless element; whether in sense existence, form existence, or formless existence; whether in percipient existence, non-percipient existence, or neither-percipient-nor-non-percipient existence; whether in one-constituent existence, four-constituent existence, or five-constituent existence; whether again in a destination, in rebirth, in rebirth-linking, in saṃsāra, or in the round — it would not be generated, not be engendered, not be produced, not be brought forth; right here it would cease, be stilled, come to an end, be tranquilized — thus, "give up form, for no renewed existence." Therefore the Blessed One said:
Having seen people being afflicted over forms — (Piṅgiya, said the Blessed One) —
heedless people are stricken over forms;
therefore, Piṅgiya, being heedful,
give up form, for no renewed existence.
