[547] **Accomplished in conduct, the seer** (*sampannacaraṇaṃ isiṃ*): "conduct" (caraṇa) is said to be the fulfillment of virtue and good behavior. Restraint by virtue is conduct; restraint of the senses (indriyasaṃvara) is conduct; moderation in eating is conduct; the practice of wakefulness is conduct; the seven good qualities (saddhamma) are conduct; the four jhānas also are conduct.
**Accomplished in conduct**: possessed of accomplished conduct, of the best conduct, of foremost conduct, of supreme conduct, of excellent conduct — thus, "accomplished in conduct."
**The seer** (*isi*): a seer. The Blessed One sought, searched for, and sought out the great aggregate of virtue — thus he is a seer. … Or else he is sought, searched for, and sought out by beings of great influence, [who ask]: "Where is the Buddha? Where is the Blessed One? Where is the god of gods (devadeva)? Where is the bull of men (narāsabha)?" — thus he is a seer. Hence, "accomplished in conduct, the seer."
