[551] **The Buddha answered them (tesaṃ buddho byākāsi):** *Them* (tesaṃ): the sixteen brahmins of the Way to the Far Shore (pārāyanikā brāhmaṇā).
*The Buddha* (buddho): he who is the Blessed One … this designation, namely "Buddha," is a designation based on realization (sacchikā paññatti).
*Answered* (byākāsi): the Buddha answered them — he told, taught, made known, established, disclosed, analyzed, made plain, and revealed. Hence, "the Buddha answered them."
