[552] **Asked a question, [he answered] in accordance with truth (yathātathaṃ):** In the phrase "asked a question," *asked a question* means: asked a question, requested, invited, entreated to give his gracious reply.
*In accordance with truth (yathātathaṃ)* means: as it ought to be told, so he told it; as it ought to be taught, so he taught it; as it ought to be declared, so he declared it; as it ought to be established, so he established it; as it ought to be disclosed, so he disclosed it; as it ought to be analyzed, so he analyzed it; as it ought to be made plain, so he made it plain; as it ought to be revealed, so he revealed it. Therefore it is said: "asked a question, [he answered] in accordance with truth."
