[564] **"Would go from the near shore to the far shore" (gacche pāraṃ apārato):** "the far shore" (pāra) is a designation for the deathless, Nibbāna — that which is the stilling of all formations, the relinquishment of all acquisitions (upadhi), the destruction of craving (taṇhā), dispassion, cessation, Nibbāna. "The near shore" (apāra) is a designation for the defilements, the aggregates, and the volitional formations (abhisaṅkhārā). "Would go from the near shore to the far shore": one would go from the near shore to the far shore; one would attain the far shore, would touch the far shore, would realize the far shore. Therefore it is said, "would go from the near shore to the far shore." Hence this is said:
Whoever would practice in accordance with each single question,
just as it was taught by the Buddha,
would go from the near shore to the far shore.
