[628] **"Therefore I deem it no absence from him"** (teneva maññāmi avippavāsaṃ): developing by means of that recollection of the Buddha (buddhānussati), I deem him to be not absent; I deem him to be one from whom I have not dwelt apart; I know — thus I know, thus I understand, thus I discern, thus I recognize — therefore I deem it no absence from him. Hence the Elder Piṅgiya said:
"I see him with my mind as if with the eye;
heedful night and day, O brahmin,
paying homage, I pass the night;
therefore I deem it no absence from him."
