[677] **"Whatever concern there is for children and wives (puttesu dāresu ca yā apekkhā)"** — as for "children" (puttā): there are four kinds of children — the child born of oneself, the child born of one's field, the given (adopted) child, and the pupil-child. "Wives" (dārā): by this a wife (bhariyā) is meant. "Concern" (apekkhā): by this craving (taṇhā) is meant — whatever lust, passion, … covetousness, greed, the unwholesome root. Hence, "whatever concern there is for children and wives."
