[683] *Āmantanā hoti sahāyamajjhe vāse ṭhāne gamane cārikāyā* ti — "In the midst of companions there is consultation, whether dwelling, standing, going, or wandering." "Companions" (sahāyā) are so called: those with whom going is at ease, coming is at ease, going and coming are at ease, standing is at ease, sitting is at ease, lying down is at ease, addressing is at ease, conversing is at ease, speaking together is at ease, discussing together is at ease. "In the midst of companions there is consultation, whether dwelling, standing, going, or wandering": in the midst of companions — whether dwelling, or standing, or going, or wandering — there is consultation about one's own good (attattha), consultation about the good of others (parattha), consultation about the good of both (ubhayattha), consultation about the good pertaining to the present life (diṭṭhadhammikattha), consultation about the good pertaining to the life to come (samparāyikattha), and consultation about the highest good (paramattha). Therefore it is said: "In the midst of companions there is consultation, whether dwelling, standing, going, or wandering."
