[707] **If one should not gain a prudent companion (no ce labhetha nipakaṃ sahāyaṃ):** if one should not gain, should not obtain, should not attain, should not find a companion who is prudent (nipaka)—one who is wise (paṇḍita), possessed of wisdom (paññavā), intelligent, endowed with knowledge (ñāṇa), discerning, sagacious—therefore it is said, "if one should not gain a prudent companion."
