[712] **"One should associate with companions who are superior or equal"** (seṭṭhā samā sevitabbā sahāyā): companions are superior by virtue (sīla), by concentration (samādhi), by wisdom (paññā), by liberation (vimutti), and by the knowledge and vision of liberation (vimuttiñāṇadassana); companions are equal by virtue, by concentration, by wisdom, by liberation, and by the knowledge and vision of liberation. Companions who are superior, or companions who are equal, should be associated with, resorted to, attended upon, questioned, and closely interrogated. Hence, "one should associate with companions who are superior or equal."
