[721] **"Seeing this peril in the future"** — "peril" (bhaya) means: the peril of birth, the peril of aging, the peril of illness, the peril of death, the peril of kings, the peril of thieves, the peril of fire, the peril of water, the peril of self-reproach, the peril of reproach by others, the peril of punishment, the peril of a bad destination, the peril of waves, the peril of crocodiles, the peril of whirlpools, the peril of fierce fish, the peril concerning livelihood, the peril of disrepute, the peril of timidity in assemblies; that which is frightful, trembling, horripilation, agitation of mind (citta), fright.
**"Seeing this peril in the future"** means: seeing, beholding, looking upon, contemplating, examining this peril in the future — thus, "seeing this peril in the future." **"One should wander alone, like a rhinoceros horn."** Therefore that Paccekasambuddha said:
Thus with a companion there would be for me
talk of speech or entanglement;
seeing this peril in the future,
one should wander alone, like a rhinoceros horn.
