[74] **"By what are the streams shut off?"** — by what are the streams (sotā) closed off, that is, cut off, so that they do not flow, do not stream forth, do not glide along, do not continue on? Thus, "by what are the streams shut off?" Therefore that brahmin said: 　　　　"The streams flow everywhere" (thus said the venerable Ajita); 　　　　"what is that which wards off the streams? 　　　　Tell of the restraint (saṃvara) of the streams: 　　　　by what are the streams shut off?"
