[771] **"Like fire not returning to what is burnt" (aggīva daḍḍhaṃ anivattamāno):** just as a fire, burning its fuel of grass and wood, goes on without turning back, even so that Paccekasambuddha does not come again to, does not come back to, does not return to those defilements (kilesa) that were abandoned by the path of stream-entry (sotāpattimagga); those defilements that were abandoned by the path of once-returning (sakadāgāmimagga), those defilements that were abandoned by the path of non-returning (anāgāmimagga), those defilements that were abandoned by the path of Arahantship (arahattamagga) — to those defilements he does not come again, does not come back, does not return. Hence, "like fire not returning to what is burnt." "He should wander alone like a rhinoceros horn." Therefore that Paccekasambuddha said:
Having shattered the fetters (saṃyojana),
as a fish moving in the water breaks the net,
as fire does not return to what is burnt,
one should wander alone like a rhinoceros horn.
