[104] One contemplating the arising (udaya) of the five aggregates (khandha) — how many characteristics (lakkhaṇa) does one see? One contemplating the passing away (vaya), how many characteristics does one see? One contemplating the arising and passing away, how many characteristics does one see? One contemplating the arising of the five aggregates sees twenty-five characteristics; one contemplating the passing away sees twenty-five characteristics; one contemplating the arising and passing away sees fifty characteristics.
