Mahāvagga

Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Paṭisambhidāmagga · Vol. 31 · Section 128

[128] How is there difference in the application (abhinīhāra) of the mind (citta) toward equanimity regarding formations (saṅkhārupekkhā) in the case of a worldling (puthujjana), a trainee (sekkha), and one free from lust (vītarāga)? A worldling's equanimity regarding formations is wholesome (kusala); a trainee's equanimity regarding formations, too, is wholesome; the equanimity regarding formations of one free from lust is indeterminate (abyākata). Thus the application of the mind toward equanimity regarding formations of a worldling, of a trainee, and of one free from lust is different in the sense of being wholesome or indeterminate.
