[130] How is the application of the mind (citta) to equanimity toward formations (saṅkhārupekkhā) different for the ordinary person (puthujjana), for the trainee (sekkha), and for the one free of lust (vītarāga)?
The ordinary person contemplates with insight because he is unsatisfied with equanimity toward formations; the trainee too contemplates with insight because he is unsatisfied with equanimity toward formations; the one free of lust contemplates with insight because he is satisfied with equanimity toward formations. Thus the application of the mind to equanimity toward formations is different for the ordinary person, for the trainee, and for the one free of lust — in the sense of being satisfied and in the sense of being unsatisfied.
