[140] What are the ten dhammas of change-of-lineage (gotrabhū) that arise by way of insight (vipassanā)?
It is change-of-lineage because, for the sake of obtaining the path of stream-entry (sotāpattimagga), it overcomes arising, occurrence, the sign, accumulation, rebirth-linking, destination, generation, re-arising, birth, aging, illness, death, sorrow, lamentation, despair, and the sign of external formations. It is change-of-lineage because, for the sake of the attainment of the fruition of stream-entry, it overcomes arising, occurrence, the sign, accumulation, and rebirth-linking. For the sake of obtaining the path of once-returning … for the sake of the attainment of the fruition of once-returning, for the sake of obtaining the path of non-returning, for the sake of the attainment of the fruition of non-returning, for the sake of obtaining the path of arahantship — it is change-of-lineage because it overcomes arising, occurrence, the sign, accumulation, rebirth-linking, destination, generation, re-arising, birth, aging, illness, death, sorrow, lamentation, despair, and the sign of external formations. It is change-of-lineage because, for the sake of the attainment of the fruition of arahantship, and for the sake of the attainment of the abiding in emptiness (suññatavihāra-samāpatti), it overcomes arising, occurrence, the sign, accumulation, and rebirth-linking. These ten dhammas of change-of-lineage arise by way of insight.
