[167] What is the conduct of non-knowledge (aññāṇacariyā)? The functional-indeterminate act of adverting (āvajjana) for the purpose of the impulsion (javana) of lust (rāga) regarding agreeable forms is the conduct of consciousness (viññāṇacariyā); the impulsion of lust is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of hatred regarding disagreeable forms is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of hatred is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of delusion regarding an object not evenly regarded by either of those two is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of delusion is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of conceit (māna) that binds is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of conceit is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of view (diṭṭhi) that is misapprehended is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of view is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of restlessness that has gone to distraction is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of restlessness is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of doubt (vicikicchā) that has gone to indecision is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of doubt is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of a latent tendency (anusaya) grown strong is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of the latent tendency is the conduct of non-knowledge. Regarding agreeable sounds … regarding agreeable odors, regarding agreeable tastes, regarding agreeable tangibles, regarding agreeable mental phenomena (dhammā): the functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of lust is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of lust is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of hatred regarding disagreeable mental phenomena is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of hatred is the conduct of non-knowledge. The functional-indeterminate act of adverting for the purpose of the impulsion of delusion regarding an object not evenly regarded by either of those two is the conduct of consciousness; the impulsion of delusion is the conduct of non-knowledge.
