[209] Seeing the sign (nimitta) of aging and death as fearful, because his mind is resolved upon the signless (animitta), having looked on with equanimity at occurrence (pavatta), he adverts to cessation, Nibbāna, the signless, and attains — this is the signless attainment (animittā samāpatti). Seeing desire (paṇidhi) regarding aging and death as fearful, because his mind is resolved upon the desireless (appaṇihita), having looked on with equanimity at occurrence, he adverts to cessation, Nibbāna, the desireless, and attains — this is the desireless attainment (appaṇihitā samāpatti). Seeing adherence (abhinivesa) to aging and death as fearful, because his mind is resolved upon the void (suññata), having looked on with equanimity at occurrence, he adverts to cessation, Nibbāna, the void, and attains — this is the void attainment (suññatā samāpatti).
