[283] Which beings are capable (bhabba)? Those beings who are not possessed of the obstruction of kamma (kammāvaraṇa), not possessed of the obstruction of defilements (kilesāvaraṇa), not possessed of the obstruction of result (vipākāvaraṇa), who have faith, are endowed with zeal, and are wise — capable of entering the fixed course of rightness (sammatta-niyāma) in wholesome dhammas: these beings are capable. This is the Tathāgata's knowledge (ñāṇa) of the dispositions and latent tendencies (āsayānusaya) of beings.
