[333] In what ten modes is there adherence (abhinivesa) through wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi)?
The view (diṭṭhi) that speaks thus of the ground (vatthu): "There is nothing given [no fruit of giving]," is the misapprehension (parāmāsa) held through the adherence of wrong view. The view is not the ground; the ground is not the view. The view is one thing; the ground is another. The view together with the ground — this is the first wrong view with a wrong ground. Wrong view is failure of view … these are fetters (saṃyojana), but not views.
The view that speaks thus of the ground: "There is nothing offered" … "There is nothing sacrificed," is the misapprehension held through the adherence of wrong view; [likewise] of the ground: "There is no fruit or result of actions well done or ill done"; of the ground: "There is no this world"; of the ground: "There is no other world"; of the ground: "There is no mother"; of the ground: "There is no father"; of the ground: "There are no beings spontaneously reborn"; of the ground: "There are no ascetics and brahmins in the world who have reached rightly and practised rightly, who, having realized this world and the other world for themselves by direct knowledge, make them known." Such speech is the misapprehension held through the adherence of wrong view. The view is not the ground; the ground is not the view. The view is one thing; the ground is another. The view together with the ground — this is the wrong view with ten grounds. Wrong view is failure of view … For a person possessed of wrong view there are two destinations … these are fetters, but not views. In these ten modes there is adherence through wrong view.
