[311] There are [defilements] that are both fetters and views; there are those that are fetters but not views. Which are both fetters and views? The misapprehension that is personality-view (sakkāyadiṭṭhiparāmāsa) — that is, personality-view (sakkāyadiṭṭhi) — and the adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa): these are both fetters and views. Which are fetters but not views? The fetter of sensual lust (kāmarāga), the fetter of repulsion (paṭigha), the fetter of conceit (māna), the fetter of doubt, the fetter of lust for existence (bhavarāga), the fetter of envy (issā), the fetter of avarice (macchariya), the fetter of latent tendency (anusaya), the fetter of ignorance: these are fetters but not views. In the view of gratification (assādadiṭṭhi) there is misapprehension (abhinivesa) in these thirty-five ways.
