[339] In what five ways is there adherence through the view grasping an extreme (antaggāhikā diṭṭhi), 'The world is not eternal'?
The view that is a misapprehension through adherence (abhinivesaparāmāsa), [holding] 'Form (rūpa) is both the world and not eternal' — by that view that extreme is grasped; hence it is a view grasping an extreme. … This is the first view grasping the extreme 'The world is not eternal.' A view grasping an extreme is a wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi), a failure in views … These are fetters, but not views. … 'Feeling (vedanā) is both the world and not eternal' … 'Perception is both the world and not eternal' … 'Volitional formations are both the world and not eternal' … The view that is a misapprehension through adherence, [holding] 'Consciousness is both the world and not eternal' — by that view that extreme is grasped; hence it is a view grasping an extreme. A view grasping an extreme is a wrong view … These are fetters, but not views. Through the view grasping the extreme 'The world is not eternal,' adherence occurs in these five ways.
