Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Paṭisambhidāmagga · Vol. 31 · Section 338

[338] In which five modes is there adherence (abhinivesa) through the view that grasps an extreme (antaggāhikā diṭṭhi), "The world is eternal"? The view that is misapprehension (parāmāsa) through adherence thus, "Form (rūpa) is the world, and it is eternal" — by that view that extreme is grasped; hence it is a view that grasps an extreme. The view is not the basis (vatthu); the basis is not the view. The view is one thing; the basis is another. The view together with the basis — this is the first view grasping the extreme "The world is eternal." A view that grasps an extreme is wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi) … These are fetters, but not views. The view that is misapprehension through adherence thus, "Feeling (vedanā) is the world, and it is eternal" … "Perception (saññā) is the world, and it is eternal" … "Volitional formations (saṅkhārā) are the world, and they are eternal" … "Consciousness (viññāṇa) is the world, and it is eternal" — by that view that extreme is grasped; hence it is a view that grasps an extreme. The view is not the basis; the basis is not the view. The view is one thing; the basis is another. The view together with the basis — this is the fifth view grasping the extreme "The world is eternal." A view that grasps an extreme is wrong view … These are fetters, but not views. It is in these five modes that there is adherence through the view that grasps an extreme, "The world is eternal."
