Suttapiṭaka · Khuddakanikāya · Paṭisambhidāmagga · Vol. 31 · Section 351

[351] In which eighteen modes is there adherence (abhinivesa) by way of the view bound up with conceit (māna) as "I"? The view bound up with conceit "the eye is I": the view (diṭṭhi) is not the basis (vatthu), the basis is not the view; the view is one thing, the basis another. The view together with the basis — this is the first view bound up with conceit as "I." A view bound up with conceit is wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi) … These are fetters, but not views. "The ear is I" … "the nose is I," "the tongue is I," "the body is I," "the mind is I" … "dhammas are I," "eye-consciousness is I" … "mind-consciousness is I": the misapprehension through adherence (abhinivesaparāmāsa) "[this] is I" is a view bound up with conceit as "I." The view is not the basis, the basis is not the view; the view is one thing, the basis another. The view together with the basis — this is the eighth view bound up with conceit as "I." A view bound up with conceit is wrong view … These are fetters, but not views. It is in these eighteen modes that there is adherence by way of the view bound up with conceit as "I."
