[352] Through the view (diṭṭhi) bound up with conceit as 'mine' (mamanti mānavinibandhā diṭṭhi), in what eighteen modes is there adherence (abhinivesa)?
"The eye is mine" — this is a view bound up with conceit. The view is not the basis (vatthu); the basis is not the view. The view is one thing, the basis another. The view together with the basis — this is the first view bound up with conceit as 'mine'. A view bound up with conceit is wrong view (micchādiṭṭhi) … These are fetters, but not views. "The ear is mine" … "The nose is mine," "the tongue is mine" … "the mind is mine" … "mental phenomena (dhammā) are mine," "eye-consciousness is mine" … "mind-consciousness is mine" — the misapprehension (parāmāsa) through adherence as 'mine' is a view bound up with conceit. The view is not the basis; the basis is not the view. The view is one thing, the basis another. The view together with the basis — this is the eighth view bound up with conceit as 'mine'. A view bound up with conceit is wrong view … These are fetters, but not views.
Through the view bound up with conceit as 'mine', it is in these eighteen modes that there is adherence.
