[371] What are those kinds of singleness (ekattā)?
Singleness in the establishment (upaṭṭhāna) of the relinquishment of a gift (dānavossagga); singleness in the establishment of the sign of serenity (samathanimitta); singleness in the establishment of the characteristic of fall (vayalakkhaṇa); singleness in the establishment of cessation (nirodha). Singleness in the establishment of the relinquishment of a gift belongs to those resolved upon giving up (cāgādhimuttānaṃ); singleness in the establishment of the sign of serenity belongs to those devoted to the higher mind (adhicitta); singleness in the establishment of the characteristic of fall belongs to those who practice insight (vipassakānaṃ); and singleness in the establishment of cessation belongs to the noble individuals (ariyapuggalānaṃ). The mind (citta) that has attained singleness in these four instances is both clear through purity of the mode of practice (paṭipadāvisuddhi), strengthened by equanimity (upekkhā), and gladdened by knowledge (ñāṇa).
